Exterior Cleaning in Esher
Esher is a short run from our Molesey yard, and we know its mix of houses well: slate-roofed terraces off the High Street, Victorian cottages at West End, and large homes on the private roads round Claremont. We clean roofs, stone, patios, drives, gutters and windows with low-pressure steam, not harsh chemicals.

Old town centre, newer private roads
The heart of Esher has been a conservation area since 1973. It takes in the High Street, Church Street, Esher Green, Park Road, Wolsey Road and Wolsey Grove, with Clive Road added in 1983. Brick is the main walling material here, often painted or rendered, and the council's own appraisal notes low-pitched slate roofs across much of the town centre. Park Road is a run of tightly packed Victorian terraces with small front gardens; Wolsey Road and Wolsey Grove are late nineteenth-century houses set back on a neat building line.
Clive Road is different again: a 1920s private estate of large houses in big gardens, some still under handmade clay tiles. Beyond the old centre, the town spreads into detached homes along Copsem Lane, Claremont Lane and private roads such as Esher Park Avenue, Clare Hill and Blackhills. Detached houses make up roughly half the homes in the ward, so long drives, wide patios and big roofs are normal here.

Esher
Commons, cedars and the Claremont woods
Esher sits right against green space. Esher Commons, around 890 acres including Esher Common and West End Common, runs along the south of the town and is now mostly woodland of oak, beech, silver birch and Scots pine. The National Trust's Claremont Landscape Garden sits just off the Portsmouth Road, Christ Church stands among mature cedars, and Esher Green is lined with limes.
It is lovely to live beside, but it shows on the outside of a house. Shaded roof slopes stay damp and grow moss, needles and leaves collect in gutters and valleys, lime trees drip sticky honeydew onto paving, and patios under tree cover turn green and slippery each winter.

Steam suits Esher's older buildings
St George's Church dates from the sixteenth century, The Bear on the High Street from the early eighteenth, and Waynflete's Tower, the brick gatehouse of the old Esher Place, from the late fifteenth century. Plenty of ordinary homes in the conservation area and at West End are well over a century old too. Soft brick, old pointing, aged clay tiles and slate don't take kindly to a high-pressure jet washer, which strips surfaces and forces water where it shouldn't go.
Our low-pressure steam lifts moss, algae, lichen and dirt by heat rather than force, so the surface underneath stays intact, and without harsh chemicals washing into gardens or towards the ponds on the commons. Roof cleans finish with a professional biocide and come with a 5-year guarantee. We have more than 21 years in the trade and are fully insured.

Recent work at Blackhills
Blackhills is a private road of large homes on generous plots next to the Claremont landscape gardens, between Esher and the Oxshott and Claygate side. We recently steam cleaned the roof and the stonework of a house there, finishing both with biocide from our own 19-metre cherry picker. We then vacuumed out the gutters and cleaned the windows inside and out.
That is how we like to work: one visit, one team, and the whole exterior done in the right order, roof first and windows last. Whether you are on a gated drive off Copsem Lane or a terrace on Park Road, we plan access and parking at the free quote.
Know-How for Esher Homes
The Esher conservation area (1973, extended 1983) has many low-pitched slate roofs and painted or rendered brick, so gentle, non-abrasive cleaning matters.
Clive Road is a 1920s private estate where some houses still have handmade clay roof tiles, which can be soft and need careful handling.
Esher Commons and Claremont bring oak, beech, birch and Scots pine close to many homes, so gutters fill and roofs moss up faster.
Lime trees on Esher Green and the High Street drop sticky honeydew in summer, which leaves paving and sills grubby and attracts black mould.
West End is its own conservation area of Victorian cottages around a green with ponds, where small plots and narrow access need planning.

Exterior Cleaning Esher FAQs
Answers to common questions about our exterior cleaning services. Can't see yours? Give us a call — we're always happy to help.

Do you work on private roads like Blackhills, Clare Hill and Esher Park Avenue?
Yes. We recently cleaned the roof, stonework, gutters and windows of a home on Blackhills. On private roads we park considerately and can reach the roof from the drive with our cherry picker rather than ladders.
My house is in the Esher conservation area. Is steam cleaning suitable?
It is the method we would choose for older brick, slate and clay. Low-pressure steam cleans without blasting the surface or the pointing. If your home is listed or in the conservation area, it is still worth checking with Elmbridge about anything beyond routine cleaning.
Can you do everything in one visit?
Usually, yes. Many Esher customers book a roof clean with gutters, fascias and windows, or a patio and driveway together. We work top down so the clean surfaces stay clean.
Do you use chemicals near the commons and garden ponds?
Our cleaning is done with steam rather than harsh chemicals. The only treatment we apply as standard is a professional biocide on roofs after cleaning, to slow moss and algae coming back.
