Exterior Cleaning in Ashtead

Ashtead homes sit between the oaks of Ashtead Common and the woodland of Ashtead Park, and that green setting is lovely to live in but hard on roofs, gutters and paving. We clean the outside of houses across the village with low-pressure steam, from Lower Ashtead and Woodfield up to The Warren and Rookery Hill.

Exterior cleaning in Ashtead

A village shaped by trees, chalk and clay

Ashtead grew up on a spring line, where the chalk of the North Downs to the south dips under the heavier clay to the north. That matters more than people think. Gardens on the clay side, towards the Common and Lower Ashtead, hold water and stay damp for long spells, and damp ground means green patios, slippery drives and moss creeping up from the bottom of walls.

Then there are the trees. Ashtead Common is a large National Nature Reserve full of veteran oaks, with birch and holly underneath, and Ashtead Park on the other side of the village is mostly woodland too. Add the mature street trees along roads like Greville Park Avenue and Oakfield Road, and the lime trees on Dene Road, and you get a village where leaf litter, shade and moss are simply part of the year.

From Victorian cottages to inter-war family homes — Ashtead Ashtead

From Victorian cottages to inter-war family homes

Most of Ashtead was built in two bursts: after the railway arrived in 1859 and the Ashtead Park estate was broken up in the 1880s, and then again between the wars, when the population roughly trebled. So the village has everything from Victorian cottages near The Street and Rectory Lane, through Edwardian houses on Woodfield Lane, to the 1930s semis of north-east Ashtead and the Arts and Crafts-style brick, render and tile of the Berg Estate.

Each of those brings its own cleaning job. Older clay-tiled roofs and tile-hung walls need gentle handling, not a pressure washer. 1930s semis often have concrete or clay tiles carrying decades of moss. Larger houses on The Warren, Park Lane and Rookery Hill tend to have long drives, big patios and plenty of stonework to look after. We use the same principle on all of them: low-pressure steam that lifts the growth without blasting the surface.

Working carefully in the conservation areas — Ashtead Ashtead

Working carefully in the conservation areas

Ashtead has conservation areas around Rectory Lane and Dene Road in the old village, and along the line of Edwardian houses at the south end of Woodfield Lane. The high red-brick walls on Rectory Lane, the old tiles and the period brickwork all deserve a light touch. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, gentle methods matter, and steam cleaning without harsh chemicals is about as gentle as exterior cleaning gets.

We will talk through what is sensible on an older building first, and always test a small area on soft brick, old render or worn stone.

How we reach Ashtead roofs and walls — Ashtead Ashtead

How we reach Ashtead roofs and walls

We never walk on tiles or lean ladders on roofs. Our own 19m cherry picker, run by IPAF-trained operatives, lets us reach everything from a small terrace roof in Lower Ashtead to a tall gable behind the hedges on The Warren. Where drives are tight or hedges high, we plan the set-up at the quote visit.

We are fully insured, have more than 21 years in the trade, and our quotes are free and come with no obligation. Our team works across Ashtead, Leatherhead and Epsom regularly, so we know the roads, the parking on the A24 and the quieter lanes off it.

Know-How for Ashtead Homes

Clay soil north of the village keeps patios and drives damp, so algae and black spot come back quickly in shaded spots.

Veteran oaks on Ashtead Common and woodland in Ashtead Park drop heavy leaf fall into nearby gutters every autumn.

Many inter-war roofs across Ashtead now carry thick moss, especially on north-facing slopes under trees.

Clay tiles and tile hanging on Berg Estate and older village houses need low-pressure cleaning, not blasting.

High hedges and long drives on The Warren, Park Lane and Rookery Hill mean access is planned before we arrive.

Red-brick boundary walls on Rectory Lane and around the old village respond well to chemical-free steam.

FAQ

Exterior Cleaning Ashtead FAQs

Answers to common questions about our exterior cleaning services. Can't see yours? Give us a call — we're always happy to help.

Pristine Exterior Cleaning at work
Do you cover all of Ashtead?

Yes. We work right across KT21, including the old village around The Street and Rectory Lane, Lower Ashtead and Woodfield near the station, the Berg Estate, Links Road, and the larger homes on The Warren, Park Lane and Rookery Hill. We are around 20–25 minutes away from our Molesey base.

My house backs onto Ashtead Common. Will it need cleaning more often?

Usually, yes. Homes beside the Common get more shade, more leaf fall and more damp, so moss on roofs and green on paving tends to return sooner. We will give you honest advice on how often it is worth doing based on what we see.

Is steam cleaning suitable for older homes in the conservation areas?

It is one of the gentlest options. Low-pressure steam lifts algae, lichen and moss without the force of a pressure washer and without harsh chemicals, which is why it suits old brick walls, clay tiles and period stone.

Can you do several jobs in one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Many people book the roof, gutters and windows together, because roof cleaning sends debris into the gutters and onto the glass. We can also do the patio and driveway on the same visit.

Do I need to be home?

Not always. If we can get to the outside of the property and use an outside tap, we can often work while you are out.
