Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal in Hampton
Hampton's roofs are a real mix: slate and clay tile side by side in the old village, shallow slate across Hampton Hill and later tiles on the newer estates. We steam the moss off gently from our own cherry picker, then treat the roof so it stays clean for longer.

Why moss takes hold so well here
A lot of Hampton sits low beside the Thames, with Bushy Park on one side and tree-lined roads like Hampton Court Road and Station Road running through it. Shade from mature trees and the damp air off the river keep north-facing roof slopes wet for days after rain, and that's exactly what moss and lichen need. Leaf litter caught in valleys and behind chimneys gives it a head start.
Left alone, moss lifts tiles and slates, holds water against the roof and sheds clumps into the gutters, which then overflow down the brickwork. A clean every few years, with a treatment afterwards, keeps the roof shedding water the way it was built to.

Different roofs, different care
In Hampton Village the council's own appraisal describes slate and clay tile used with no consistent pattern, so it's common to see both on one street. Old clay tiles can be soft and slightly crumbly on the surface, while slate is hard but thin at the edges. Steam at low pressure cleans both without the erosion a pressure washer causes.
Hampton Hill's Victorian High Street houses mostly have shallow-pitched slate roofs, where moss sits in the laps between slates. The big hipped slate roofs on Seymour Road in Hampton Wick have plenty of hips and dormers to work around. On 1970s and 80s homes, such as those at Nurserylands, concrete interlocking tiles are more typical, and they tend to grow thick moss cushions that come away well with steam.

How the work is done, without anyone on your tiles
We don't walk on roofs and we don't lean ladders against slate. Our 19m cherry picker, run by IPAF-trained operatives, lets us reach every slope from the basket, including the rear roofs over long Hampton gardens and the upper floors of three-storey Georgian houses near the Green.
Once the roof is steam cleaned, we apply a professional biocide that keeps working on any spores left behind. Our roof cleans are backed by a 5-year guarantee. We'll also clear what's fallen into the gutters, so you're not left with a blocked downpipe.

Chimneys, valleys and dormers up close
Hampton Hill's High Street houses still have their brick chimneystacks, and plenty of village roofs have valleys, parapets and small dormers where moss and leaves collect. These are the spots that leak first, so we give them extra time and clear the debris out by hand where steam alone won't shift it.
Being up in the basket also means we get a proper look at the roof. If a flaunching is cracked, a slate has slipped or lead flashing has lifted, we'll tell you and take photos, so you can get a roofer in before the winter rather than after a leak shows up on a ceiling.
What We See on Hampton Properties
Moss and lichen on shaded slopes facing Bushy Park or under big street trees
Slipped or lifted slates on shallow-pitched Hampton Hill roofs caused by moss in the laps
Soft, weathered clay tiles on older village houses that can't take high pressure
Moss cushions on concrete tiles on the newer estates blocking gutters and valleys
Debris building up behind chimneys and in valleys on roofs near the river
Tall rear slopes over long gardens that ladders can't reach safely

Roof Cleaning Hampton FAQs
Answers to common questions about our exterior cleaning services. Can't see yours? Give us a call — we're always happy to help.

Is steam cleaning safe for an old slate or clay tile roof in Hampton?
Yes. It's the reason we use it. Low-pressure steam softens and lifts moss and algae without stripping the surface of the tile or slate, and we use no harsh chemicals during the clean itself.
How do you reach the roof if you don't use ladders?
From our own 19m cherry picker. It lets us work on every slope from a basket, so nobody stands on your tiles. Before the day we check where it can sit on your drive or the road.
How long will the roof stay clean?
The biocide we apply after cleaning carries on working, which slows regrowth a great deal. Roofs under heavy tree cover near Bushy Park will always pick up more than open ones, but our roof cleans come with a 5-year guarantee.
Will you spot problems while you're up there?
We see the roof close up, so if we notice slipped slates, cracked tiles or tired flashings, we'll let you know and send photos where we can, so you can decide what to do next.
