A village of very different houses
Hersham packs a lot of variety into one KT12 postcode. The old heart of the village sits around The Green, Back Green, Vaux Mead and the Memorial Gardens, with St Peter's Church (1887) and the old St Stephen's School looking over them. Close by, Faulkners Road and Mills Road are lined with Victorian cottages, and Pleasant Place still has Ember and Bury Cottages, both on the council's Local List. Head north towards the railway and Hersham North is mostly semi-detached and terraced streets; go south towards Burhill and Whiteley and the detached houses take over.
That spread matters when you're cleaning the outside of a house. A Victorian terrace on a narrow road, a 1930s semi with a block-paved front, and a large detached home behind gates in Burwood Park all need a slightly different plan for access, for the surfaces involved and for where the run-off goes. We've worked across all of them, so we usually know what we're walking into before we arrive.

Hersham
Trees, river meadows and green belt
A good share of Hersham is wooded or open green belt, and it shows on the houses. Mature trees ring the greens in the conservation area, Burwood Park is known for its tall Scots pines around Broadwater Lake and Heart Pond and for one of England's oldest oaks, and the woodland around Whiteley Village and the Burhill golf courses stretches for acres. The River Mole runs along the east side of the village, past the meadows and Hersham Riverside Park off Thrupps Lane.
Put shade, falling leaves and a damp river valley together and you get the classic Surrey exterior: moss on north-facing roof slopes, green algae on patios that never quite dry out, black lichen spots on paving, and gutters packed with pine needles and oak leaves by November. None of that is a sign of a neglected home round here; it's simply what the setting does. Regular, gentle cleaning keeps it from turning into damage.

Private estates and gated driveways
Burwood Park is a private estate of around 360 acres with roughly six miles of road, a main entrance with number-plate recognition and a security hut, plus residents-only gates. Many homes there have their own gates and long drives too. Whiteley Village is a privately run retirement village with more than 100 listed buildings. Both need a bit of courtesy and planning: booking in with the estate, parking sensibly and keeping noise and mess to a minimum.
Our 19-metre cherry picker is a real help on these jobs. It lets us reach the ridge of a tall detached house from the drive without ladders against the walls or anyone walking on the tiles, and it can reach over a front garden to the roof without setting foot on the lawn. Where a vehicle can't get close, we'll talk it through at the quote and agree the best approach with you.

Why we steam clean instead of jet washing
Plenty of Hersham's paving and stone is older or softer than it looks, and some of the village's roofs are original. High-pressure jet washing strips the surface, blows out pointing and joint sand, forces water under tiles and can leave stone fuzzy and more porous, so it goes green again faster. Our low-pressure steam lifts moss, algae, lichen and grime by heat rather than force, so the surface underneath is left intact.
Steam also means we don't need harsh chemicals to get a result, which matters with the River Mole close by, garden ponds and the wildlife the estates are known for. On roofs we finish with a professional biocide treatment to slow regrowth, and our roof cleans come with a 5-year guarantee. We've been doing this for over 21 years and are fully insured.
Know-How for Hersham Homes
Victorian cottages on Faulkners Road and Mills Road often have small front gardens and on-street parking, so access is planned around the road rather than a driveway.
Hersham Village is a conservation area (designated 1989) with mature trees around the greens; gentle, non-abrasive cleaning suits older brick, stone and roofs.
Burwood Park's Scots pines drop needles all year and its oaks shed heavily in autumn, so gutters and valleys there clog faster than average.
The River Mole valley on the east side keeps gardens damp and shaded for longer, which encourages algae on patios and moss on roofs.
Hersham South has far more detached homes than Hersham North, so larger roofs and longer drives are common towards Burhill and Whiteley.
Whiteley Village's red-brick almshouses have plain tiled roofs; older clay tiles need low-pressure methods to avoid damage.

Exterior Cleaning Hersham FAQs
Answers to common questions about our exterior cleaning services. Can't see yours? Give us a call — we're always happy to help.

Do you cover the whole of Hersham?
Yes. We work right across KT12, from the streets around The Green and Hersham station down to Burhill, Whiteley Village and Burwood Park, and over towards the Mole and Molesey Road. It's one of the areas we're in most weeks.
Can you work inside Burwood Park?
Yes. We'll book in with the estate as required, park considerately and keep the drive and roads clear. The cherry picker can usually work from your own driveway, so there's no need to block estate roads.
My house is in the Hersham Village conservation area. Is steam cleaning suitable?
It's the gentlest option we know of for older brick, stone and roofs, because it relies on heat rather than pressure and doesn't need harsh chemicals. If your home is listed or in the conservation area, it's worth checking with Elmbridge Borough Council before any wider works, but a careful clean is usually exactly what these buildings need.
How often should a Hersham house be cleaned?
Most homes here benefit from a roof clean every five years or so, gutters cleared once or twice a year (more under pines and oaks), and patios and drives cleaned every one to two years. Houses backing onto woodland or the Mole meadows tend to need it a bit more often.
Can you do several jobs in one visit?
Yes, and it often makes sense. A roof clean naturally pairs with a gutter clearance and fascia and soffit clean, and many customers have the patio, driveway and windows done at the same time so everything finishes looking fresh together.
