Two very different kinds of Kingston drive
In the Victorian and Edwardian streets around Norbiton, Fairfield and Park Road, many front gardens have been turned into small parking spaces. These short drives take a lot of wear: car tyres, oil drips, mud from the road and weeds in the joints, all in full view of the street.
Up the hill in Coombe and on Kingston Hill, drives are often long and edged with trees and lawns. They get less wear per square metre but far more leaf litter, moss and green algae, especially where the drive runs under oaks or along a boundary wall. Both types benefit from a proper deep clean.
The 1930s mock Tudor semis around Kingston Vale sit somewhere in between. Where a drive runs close to the house, we take care to keep spray and dirt off the brickwork, timber detailing and front door.

Matching the method to the surface
Block paving is common across Kingston. Moss and weeds grow in the joints, and once the sand washes out the blocks can start to move. We clean the surface, clear the joints and then re-sand with kiln-dried sand, which brushes in dry and helps lock the blocks back together.
Resin-bound drives are popular on newer and renovated homes. They need cleaning without heavy pressure, which can loosen the stones. Tarmac, concrete and natural stone each have their own needs too, and low-pressure steam lets us clean all of them without harsh chemicals or surface damage.

Planning around gates, roads and parking
Some Coombe properties are on private roads with gates, and town streets near the centre can have parking restrictions. We will ask about this when we quote, so we know where the van can go and when cars need to be moved.
A clean driveway also makes a big difference when selling. Kingston homes attract plenty of interest, and a tidy, weed-free drive is one of the first things buyers see.

What to expect on the day
On the day we will ask you to move cars off the drive, then sweep and clear loose debris and weeds. We steam clean the surface section by section, paying extra attention to oil marks, tyre tracks and the green edges where the drive meets lawns, walls or planting. On block paving we then let the surface dry before brushing kiln-dried sand into the joints, because damp sand will not settle properly.
Most Kingston driveways are finished in a day, though long drives in Coombe or on Kingston Hill can take longer. We leave the drive and the street outside tidy, and we can clean front paths, steps and patios at the same time. If any blocks have sunk or cracked, or a resin surface has worn through, we will point it out so you can decide whether repairs are worth doing before the next clean.
For homes near the river and the Hogsmill, where surfaces stay damp for longer, a clean every year or two keeps moss and algae from getting a hold again.

Driveway Cleaning Kingston FAQs
Answers to common questions about our exterior cleaning services. Can't see yours? Give us a call — we're always happy to help.

Do you re-sand block paving after cleaning?
Yes. We re-sand with kiln-dried sand, which helps keep weeds out and the blocks firmly in place.
Can you clean a resin driveway without damaging it?
Yes. We use low-pressure steam rather than a high-pressure jet, so the resin and stones are not loosened.
My drive is on a private road in Coombe. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Just let us know about any gate codes or access arrangements when you book, and we will plan around them.
Will oil stains come out completely?
Fresh oil often lifts well. Older stains that have soaked deep into concrete or block paving usually fade a lot but may not disappear entirely. We will tell you what to expect before we start.
