What leaves and shade do to an Ashtead drive
The roads around Ashtead are lined with mature trees, from the street trees along Greville Park Avenue and Oakfield Road to the hedging and woodland edges on Park Lane and Rookery Hill. Every autumn those leaves land on drives, sit there and break down, leaving tannin stains and feeding moss and weeds in the joints.
On the clay side of the village, towards Lower Ashtead and the Common, drives can stay damp for long periods. That is ideal for green algae on block paving and for moss in the gaps, and it is why some drives look patchy even after a good sweep.
Drives on a slope, which you find on the rising ground towards the Downs in South Ashtead, also collect silt and run-off at the bottom edge, and that strip is often the greenest part of the whole drive.

Block paving, tarmac, resin and stone
We clean all the common surfaces you find on Ashtead drives. Block paving is the most usual, and it is the one that gains most from a proper clean followed by re-sanding the joints with kiln-dried sand. That locks the blocks back together and leaves less room for weeds. Tarmac drives on many inter-war houses benefit from a steam clean to lift the green and the grime.
Newer resin-bound drives need care, because high pressure can loosen the stones. Natural stone and concrete drives clean up well with steam too. Whatever the surface, we use low pressure and no harsh chemicals.

Big drives, tight drives
Ashtead has a real range: compact frontages on the 1930s semis of north-east Ashtead, shared or narrow access in parts of the old village, and long drives on The Warren, which is a private road, and on the larger Park Lane plots. We size the job at the quote visit and agree where the van and equipment will sit, so neighbours aren't blocked in and you can still get out if you need to.
Many customers book the drive with the patio, or with roof and gutter cleaning, because a roof clean is best followed by a tidy-up at ground level.

What happens on the day
We start by clearing loose leaves and debris, then steam clean the surface section by section at low pressure, paying extra attention to the joints, edges and the shaded strip that usually sits along a hedge or fence line. On block paving we let the surface dry before brushing kiln-dried sand back into the joints.
We also clean the bits around the drive that get overlooked: the path to the front door, the front steps, the edges by the lawn and the kerb line. If your house is close to the A24 or the station in Lower Ashtead, road grime collects along the front edge, and we give that a proper going-over too.
When we leave, the drive is swept, the sand is in, and the area is tidy. If anything looks loose or damaged, such as sunken blocks or cracked edging, we will let you know.

Driveway Cleaning Ashtead FAQs
Answers to common questions about our exterior cleaning services. Can't see yours? Give us a call — we're always happy to help.

Do you re-sand block paving after cleaning?
Yes. Once the drive is clean and dry enough, we brush kiln-dried sand back into the joints. It helps stabilise the blocks and makes it harder for weeds and moss to get back in.
Is steam safe on a resin driveway?
Yes. Low-pressure steam cleans resin without blasting the stones loose, which can happen with a high-pressure washer.
Can you remove leaf stains?
Steam lifts most of the staining left by autumn leaves. Very old, deep marks may fade rather than vanish entirely, and we will be upfront about that before we start.
Do I need to move my car?
Yes, ideally the drive should be clear. If that's awkward, we can work round it in sections and agree a plan with you on the day.
