Exterior cleaning in Cobham

Why Cobham homes need a different approach

Cobham is not one type of village. Church Cobham grew up around St Andrew's Church and the River Mole, and its conservation area is full of handmade red clay tiles, old red brick, tuck-pointed Georgian fronts and the odd run of black weatherboarding. Street Cobham sits on the old Portsmouth Road, and out east towards Fairmile and Oxshott Road you are into individually designed detached houses on big plots, many behind gates with long drives. Further south, Downside keeps its own village feel around the common.

That mix means a one-size-fits-all clean does not work here. A two-hundred-year-old clay tile roof by the river needs a very gentle hand, while a modern executive home on a private estate may have a large porcelain terrace, resin drive, rendered walls and a long run of glazing. We have been cleaning outside surfaces for more than 21 years, and our low-pressure steam method lets us treat each of those surfaces on its own terms without harsh chemicals or the blasting that damages tiles, joints and soft stone.

Trees, heath and the River Mole: what they do to your house — Cobham Cobham

Trees, heath and the River Mole: what they do to your house

Much of Cobham sits close to woodland. Fairmile Common, part of the Esher Commons, runs along the eastern side with Scots pine, silver birch, oak and beech, and the gardens on the private estates tend to have mature trees of their own. Pine needles, birch seed and oak leaves end up in gutters every year, and the shade they cast keeps roofs and paving damp for longer, which is exactly what moss, algae and lichen need.

Down in the valley, the River Mole brings a different kind of damp. Homes along Mill Road, River Hill and towards Downside Bridge Road sit low, and north-facing roof slopes and shaded patios there stay green for much of the year. West of the river the ground turns to sandy heath soil, east of it free-draining gravel, so you will see quite different growth from one side of the village to the other. We take that into account when we plan a clean and when we advise on how often it is worth doing.

What we do across Cobham — Cobham Cobham

What we do across Cobham

Many customers start with one job, often the roof or the patio, and then ask us to look at the rest once they see the difference. Our roof cleans use low-pressure steam to lift moss and lichen, followed by a professional biocide treatment, and every roof clean is backed by our 5-year guarantee. Stonework such as porticos, columns, balustrades, copings, steps and render is steam restored without chemicals. Patios in Indian sandstone, porcelain and York stone are steamed back to clean stone, and driveways in block paving, tarmac, resin, concrete or natural stone are deep cleaned, with block paving re-sanded with kiln-dried sand.

We also vacuum gutters clear with a high-reach gutter vacuum, clean fascias and soffits, and clean windows with pure water on water-fed poles, including frames, sills, conservatories and roof lanterns. One Cobham customer had what they called the full works: roof steam clean and treatment, patio, driveway clean and re-sand, gutters, fascias, soffits and windows in one visit, so the whole house is finished at the same time.

Recent work in Cobham — Cobham Cobham

Recent work in Cobham

On Fairmile Lane we steam cleaned and treated a roof, then hoovered out the gutters and cleaned all the external windows so the debris from the roof was not left behind. On another Cobham roof clean we spotted that the client's fibreglass flat roof was starting to break down. We pointed it out, recommended a liquid rubber coating, and installed it to make the flat roof watertight again.

Another Cobham home had a full exterior refresh: roof steam cleaned and treated, a full stonework restoration, the patio steam cleaned and the driveway deep cleaned. Jobs like these are why we know Cobham's roads, gated entrances and driveways well, and why we bring the cherry picker rather than ladders. It reaches high roofs and tall gables from the ground, it keeps weight off your tiles, and it is operated by IPAF-trained staff.

Know-How for Cobham Homes

Church Cobham's conservation area has handmade clay plain tiles, old red brick and timber framing, so we keep pressure low and avoid harsh chemicals.

Large detached homes around Fairmile and Oxshott Road often have long drives and gated access; our cherry picker and vacuum kit work from the driveway.

Pine, birch and oak from Fairmile Common and mature gardens fill gutters quickly, especially in autumn and early spring.

Low-lying streets near the River Mole stay damp, so roofs and patios there grow moss and algae faster than on higher ground.

Newer homes on estates such as Eaton Park tend to have porcelain terraces, resin drives and render, which all need a gentle clean.

Brick boundary walls along Church Street show wear from road spray, a reminder that old brick and soft joints should never be blasted.

Pristine Exterior Cleaning at work
How long does it take you to get to Cobham?

It is about 15 to 20 minutes from our Molesey base, and Cobham is one of the areas where we work most often, so we can usually fit in a quote visit quickly.

My house is in the Church Cobham conservation area. Is steam cleaning suitable?

Yes. Low-pressure steam suits exactly this kind of property. It removes moss, algae and dirt without the force that damages old clay tiles, soft brick and lime joints, and without harsh chemicals. If your home is listed, it is still worth checking with Elmbridge before any work that changes the appearance of the building, but a gentle clean is the right starting point.

Can you get onto a gated estate or down a long drive?

Almost always. Our 19m cherry picker and gutter vacuum are designed to work from a driveway, and we are used to private estates and gated homes around Fairmile and off Stoke Road. Just let us know about any gate codes, estate rules or working-hour limits when you book.

Can you do several jobs in one visit?

Yes, and in Cobham that is common. We often clean the roof first, then clear the gutters, then do the patio, driveway and windows, so nothing we wash off the roof lands on clean surfaces.

Do you clean homes in Downside and Stoke d'Abernon too?

Yes. We cover the whole KT11 area, including Downside, Stoke d'Abernon, Cobham Tilt, Leigh Hill and the Fairmile side of the village.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Every quote is free and comes with no obligation. We look at the property, tell you what we think it needs, and leave the decision with you.
